On Sunday 30th August, Porsche Cars Australia proudly returned as the Official Automotive Partner of the TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS, marking the sports car brand’s fourth year supporting one of Australia's most iconic endurance events.
Five new Cayenne Electric vehicles led the way for the marathon’s major race categories (Elite Men’s, Elite Women’s, Elite Men’s Wheelchair and Elite Women’s Wheelchair), setting a silent tempo for front-runners chasing victory on the spectacular 42-kilometre course, which started on Sunday morning at the same location as the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games’ marathon race.

“Competition and endurance racing play major roles in the Porsche story, so we know what it takes to succeed in events of this nature. It’s why we established dedicated programs for this year’s event, like the first-ever Sydney Marathon High Performance Program, which helped drive 600 talented athletes to the finish line, and the Porsche-powered Shake Out Run before the big event, which brought together so many people in this passionate community.
“It was also wonderful to have Owen Barrow join us, along with Olympic legend and Porsche brand ambassador Emma McKeon, who inspired all of us by completing her first marathon race, proving again that the greatest athletes are capable of almost anything.”
New Porsche Cayenne Electric debuts in spectacular Sydney
The new Porsche Cayenne Electric took centre stage at this year’s TCS Sydney Marathon, carrying the official race clock and setting the pace as the lead vehicle in its Australian debut ahead of its official market release this month.
Five examples of the first-ever electric Cayenne completed official course duties at the weekend, guiding some of the world’s fastest marathon runners along the breath-taking Sydney course.
From the marathon’s starting point in North Sydney, runners followed the Cayenne Electric across the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge before powering towards Darling Harbour and then to the deep green of Hyde Park via Pyrmont.
The Cayenne Electric then led competitors up Oxford Street to the mid-way point at Kingsford before a lap of Centennial Park and then down towards Sydney Harbour, passing Mrs Macquarie’s Chair before reaching the finish line at the iconic Sydney Opera House.
Porsche is releasing the new all-wheel drive Cayenne Electric in both SUV and Coupé body styles, each available in three model variants delivering three output levels, from 325 kW / 442 PS* to 850 kW / 1,156 PS*, making it the most powerful production Porsche vehicle to-date.
Porsche’s presence at this year’s TCS Sydney Marathon was its largest ever, comprising integrated events and media activities for the event’s 40,000 participants and 300,000 spectators, resulting in more than 1.7 million social media impressions, almost 20 percent more than last year.
The new Cayenne Electric was a major feature amongst invited guests, media and celebrities at the TCS Sydney Marathon VIP Event. It also hosted a dedicated recharge station at Sydney’s Customs House in Circular Quay, offering runners high-energy snacks and drinks.
Winning performance
Ethiopian runner Addisu Gobena claimed overall victory in a record-setting time of 2:04:42, cutting more than one minute from last year’s winning time and taking the win after finishing second in last year’s event.
Kenyan athlete Peres Jepchirchir claimed the women’s title in 2:18:31 and came close to beating last year’s record time.

US athlete Daniel Romanchuk broke Marcel Hug’s world record time from last year as he crossed the line first in the Men’s Wheelchair class, with Manuela Schär claiming the Women’s Wheelchair win with a new record of 1:44:52.
Manuela Schär’s win makes her the first athlete to win on all eight courses in the Abbott World Marathon Majors.
The 2026 TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS was made a member of the Abbott World Marathon Majors last year, the only race in the series to be held in the southern hemisphere.
